ARTIST STATEMENT

Creativity is a human superpower. It isn’t reserved for painters, musicians, designers, or people who call themselves artists. It belongs to all of us. Art just happens to be one of the ways I’ve learned to channel mine.


For me, art is also a passport. A question, an idea, or something that catches my attention can become an entry point into an entirely different world. I’m fascinated by our ability to have an idea that exists only in the mind, then use our hands, tools, and whatever resources are available to pull it into the physical world.


That curiosity keeps my practice moving between painting, drawing, printmaking, design, objects, installation, and whatever else an idea might call for. Different mediums feel a lot like different languages. Learning another one gives me another way to think, communicate, and explore. The idea doesn’t have to squeeze itself into a particular medium just because that’s what I made yesterday.


Language itself has become one of those rabbit holes. Humans somehow developed marks and sounds that allow a thought living inside one person’s mind to travel into another person’s mind. That’s wild when you really stop and think about it. That same curiosity pulls me toward spirituality, nature, technology, design, craftsmanship, human inventiveness, and the unknown. These interests overlap, collide, disappear, and resurface in the work.


My process stays loose enough for discovery. Observation, experimentation, intuition, mistakes, and unexpected connections are all part of it. I’ve always loved watching a building go up, when you can still see the structure before the walls hide everything. The same goes for hearing a rough mix of a song before it’s polished. Something about witnessing how a thing becomes what it is feels alive to me.


I make art for many of the same reasons people read and write books. To learn, imagine, travel, remember, question, and encounter something beyond what we already know. There is more wonder and mystery in this world than any one lifetime could fully explore. The work gives me somewhere to put a little bit of what I find along the way.


What someone takes from it is ultimately theirs. Maybe they slow down. Maybe something makes them curious. Maybe they notice something they hadn’t noticed before. Or maybe the work simply wakes up a part of them that had gone quiet.


That sense of wonder is enough.
